Field Engineer
The Northstar Field Engineer (NFE) is a challenging and rewarding position. Northstar recently started NFE program with the goal of recruiting candidates with high potential and developing them into versatile, well rounded leaders in a compressed time frame (1 - 2 years). The rigorous 6/3/3 overseas rotation (6 weeks in the field, 3 weeks in the office, 3 week leave) exposes the Field Engineer to all aspects of Northstar's business including:
- Field Operations
- Operations Management
- Design Engineering
- Manufacturing
- Technical Sales
The Field Engineer must be based in Calgary or Edmonton, however, will spend the majority of their time in the field on various international rig locations. In the field the NFE will be working shoulder-to-shoulder with Northstar's international Technicians doing pre-job planning & design, downhole tool operation, preparation & maintenance and job reporting. The Field Engineer must have the physical and mental stamina to make critical decisions under pressure and work long hours.
While gaining field experience is the primary goal of the program. The Field Engineer is in the unique position of effecting change through transferring knowledge between the office and the field. The NFE also needs to be self-motivated to initiate, complete and implement Quality Improvement Projects (QIP).
The NFE Position is definitely not for everyone. However, high output, high energy performers will discover that the experience and opportunities for personal and career growth are limitless. Field Engineers are encouraged to travel and experience new countries and cultures their leave time. After successfully completing the program the Field Engineer will be promoted to a leadership role as:
- Field Coordinator
- Design Engineer or Manager
- Manufacturing Engineer or Manager
- Training Manager
- Technical Sales Manager
- Area Manager
