DESCRIPTION:
The Single Shot Ball Valve is an annular pressure controlled full opening downhole ball valve.
APPLICATION:
- Can be run as a SAFETY VALVE providing a backup downhole valve to the Multi-Cycle Tester Valve.
- Can be run as a TUBING TESTER VALVE to allow pressure testing of the workstring prior to testing.
OPERATION:
When run as a safety valve, the ball is run in the hole in the open position. The internal sleeve is locked in the open position by a shear pin to prevent premature closing of the valve. When the annular pressure busts the rupture disk the pressure across the mandrel is large enough to shear the pin, move the mandrel and close the ball valve. Once operated, the ball valve is permanently closed until the tool is retrieved at surface.
When run as a Tubing Tester Valve, the ball is run in the hole in the closed position. Once the tubing has been pressure tested, applied annular pressure will rupture a disk and lock the ball in the open position permanently.
